Nicolas fight wound
The wound on the side of Nicolas was as a result of a fight with another badger, and at the time of the year when it happened, December the start of the breeding season, the wound was most probably inflicted by a dominant boar of the sett
This badger was a young 10 month old boar and would not have stood a chance against a much stronger experienced adult badger. The badger not only had to deal with this nasty fight wound, but he got run over as well and sustained a number of leg injuries... The weather conditions that night when Nicolas was found was extremely cold with a heavy frost conditions and very hard ground, not the best conditions even for a healthy badger. . The wound was successfully stitched up by the vet at Mercer and Hughes Veterinary Hospital at Saffron Walden Essex.
